December 31st 2016

2016 has been a fantastic year at Bees Nees Media. We have covered some of the best live events in the country,  recorded with top traditional musicians across Scotland and Ireland, filmed real life emergency rescues and released a feature length film about the iconic Hamish Henderson to try and name just a few of our projects from the past year. A huge thanks to everybody we have had the pleasure of working with this year.

And, we don’t stop there! On 31 December, we will be broadcasting BBC ALBA’s Hogmanay Ceilidh live from Stirling Castle. Here, revellers can join hosts Cathy MacDonald and Tony Kearney to celebrate with the very best in traditional music in the magnificent setting of the Great Hall and bid a fond farewell to the old year – and give a rousing welcome to 2017. The house band for the evening will be led by one of Scotland’s best-loved singers, the multi award-winning Julie Fowlis. Accompanied by acclaimed musicians, Éamon Doorley, Duncan Chisholm, Calum Stewart and Tony Byrne, they will raise the roof with a succession of musical guests.

For those of you who were lucky enough to snap up tickets whilst they were going, we will see you at the ceilidh and for those that will be tuning in on the night, we will be on air from 11.30pm on BBC ALBA and BBC Radio nan Gàidheal. It will also be available to view worldwide via: www.bbc.co.uk/alba

Be sure to let us know where you will be watching it from by using our hashtag #ALBAceilidh

The Piping Live festival returns to BBC ALBA when Ceòlmhor@Piping Live celebrates the diversity of the contemporary piping scene. New presenter Allan MacDonald – no stranger to the piping word himself – fronts three episodes that features some of the best music from Piping Live 2016.

Across the three programmes, Allan MacDonald shines a light on pipers and musicians and the conversations we hear give the wonderful music a context.

Ceòlmhor@PipingLive is produced by Bees Nees Media for BBC ALBA with the first programme in the series being broadcast on Wednesday 14 December at 10pm and subsequent programmes following each Wednesday thereafter.
