We’re back! The team is gearing up to cover The Tiree Music Festival later this week.  Music fans who weren’t lucky enough to snap up tickets to the festival can soak in the sights and sounds of Tiree as BBC ALBA brings the Tiree Music Festival to our screens for a second year.

Presenters Sarah Cruickshank and Vicky Kilgour will host festival highlights on BBC ALBA over two successive weekends from 23rd July, with more to follow later this year.

This year the line up includes The Levellers, Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Skipinnish, Skerryvore, Flook and much, much more.

Back for a second series, Cathy Macdonald presents this music show recorded during Celtic Connections 2016. Including appearances by Blue Rose Code, Kris Kristofferson, Lunasa and Maggie MacInnes, plus other bands and singers from the festival, the series is just finishing up in post production.

The series will air on BBC ALBA from Sept 17th 2016

The landmark music series, charting the musical landscapes of Ireland and Scotland is back for a third series. Presented by two of the finest tradition bearers from both countries; Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh and Julie Fowlis, their journey will be ours as we accompany them to cities and counties and meet a cast of top musicians, raconteurs and characters. We’ll discover what makes each area culturally and musically distinct and hear some amazing impromptu sessions on the way.

We’re heading to Orkney with the rest of the series filming around Scotland and Ireland during the summer.

The series will air on BBC ALBA and TG4 early 2017.

Hamish Henderson (1919-2002) was a colossal figure in Scottish culture, a man of boundless passion and curiosity whose poems continue to elevate and inspire a nation. Bees Nees has had the pleasure of working with director Robbie Fraser on this highly anticipated documentary that pays tribute to the many contrary forces and diverse facets of Henderson’s life as a poet, soldier, intellectual, activist, songwriter and leading force in the revival of Scottish folk music.

The film premiered at the 2016 Glasgow Film Festival and will screen on BBC ALBA on September 22nd 2016.

Earlier this year, Bees Nees teamed up with Matchlight to produce the hour long documentary – The Switch On.

Half a million profoundly deaf people across the world have had their hearing restored thanks to cochlear implantation, and the extraordinary clips of their cochlear implant being ‘switched on’ have become popular on the internet – shared and watched by millions.

Over the past 25 years, the Scottish Cochlear Implant Unit at Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock, have implanted 1400 people. But the staff here believe that represents only a fraction of the people who need it. This film follows five patients on an extraordinary emotional journey.

Released on the 2nd September ‘Cartwheels’ is the second album by Ward Thomas – the Hampshire twin sisters Catherine and Lizzy Ward Thomas. The album made chart history last week when it became the first ever album by a UK Country act to reach number one in the UK Album Charts.

Requested by one of our German listeners Frank Toder,  we decided to make this our feature archive. It Was released in 1995 and received excellent reviews and sold in the region of 190,000 copies. It is now out of print and no longer available.

Featured Songwriter: Chip Taylor

Chip Taylor is one of America’s finest songwriters famed for writing ‘Wild Thing’ and ‘Angel Of The Morning’. Many of his songs have been covered by other top names in country including Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Tillotson.  He has recently released two new albums ‘Little Brothers’ and ‘I’ll Carry For You’.
