We have filmed them before…Tiree & Belladrum to name a few. But this was something else. Skipinnish absolutely rocked the Barrowland Ballroom at their sell-out show on 22 September 2017. An amazing achievement for both the band, and Scottish music – it certainly was a night to remember.

If you were one of the unlucky ones who never managed to get a ticket, or if you were there and just want to live it all again, we have some good news for you as our footage from the night will air on BBC ALBA on 18 November. Catch all the tunes & songs and feel the crowd dancing on our programme then.

Have you been keeping up with our series from Celtic Connections 2017 on BBC ALBA? We have six episodes of jaw dropping music on right now featuring a star-studded cast of musicians and bands, all recorded from Hillhead Bookclub back in January during the festival. The programmes run weekly on Saturday nights and are presented by Mary Ann Kennedy. If you missed our first few shows, you can catch them on BBC iPlayer.

The footage may just be airing now, but it is not that long until all the fun and games of the annual winter music festival kicks off again in January where we will be pulling together another bumper lineup for our shows from the alternative festival club. If you want to be in the audience, be sure to keep an eye out on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Bees Nees Media are proud to announce the coverage of the 2017 Scottish National and International Sheepdog Trials on BBC ALBA. Both trials were fiercely contested in the picturesque surroundings of Blairgowrie, Perthshire, and Aldsworth, Gloucestershire, with what was quite possibly the most challenging final Supreme course ever seen.

Catch all the drama with Catriona MacPhee and Donald MacSween when the series airs early in the New Year.

Straight after filming in Lorient, our crew were on the first flight back to Glasgow to continue our busy summer schedule and film at the prestigious Piping Live! festival. The annual event has become a major date in the bagpiping world, and our series of four episodes will bring intimate performances from the headline bands of the festival at the stunning Art School to BBC ALBA.

The headline bands for the four episodes are: Battlefield Band, José Manuel Tejedor, Fin Moore /Sarah Hoy / Steve Byrne, and Peatbog Faeries. Whoah! Can’t argue with that lineup. Allan MacDonald returns as presenter of the series, which will start on 20 September and run weekly thereafter.

2017 was the ‘Year of Scotland’ at the 47th annual Festival Interceltique de Lorient in Brittany, France, where some of Scotland’s top traditional musicians and bands had the chance to shine at one of the biggest festivals in the Celtic music calendar…and shine they did! Audiences were blown away by the quality of music that was being performed for a week across various venues. Fortunately for us, we were there with a camera crew to capture some of these magnificent moments, as well as the incredible carnival atmosphere of the entire city.

Presented by Julie Fowlis and Allan MacDonald, the series will air on BBC ALBA in December, featuring plenty of gig footage, behind the scenes interviews, pop-up performances, experiences of Breton culture and of course the sound of the bagad!

December 31st 2016

2016 has been a fantastic year at Bees Nees Media. We have covered some of the best live events in the country,  recorded with top traditional musicians across Scotland and Ireland, filmed real life emergency rescues and released a feature length film about the iconic Hamish Henderson to try and name just a few of our projects from the past year. A huge thanks to everybody we have had the pleasure of working with this year.

And, we don’t stop there! On 31 December, we will be broadcasting BBC ALBA’s Hogmanay Ceilidh live from Stirling Castle. Here, revellers can join hosts Cathy MacDonald and Tony Kearney to celebrate with the very best in traditional music in the magnificent setting of the Great Hall and bid a fond farewell to the old year – and give a rousing welcome to 2017. The house band for the evening will be led by one of Scotland’s best-loved singers, the multi award-winning Julie Fowlis. Accompanied by acclaimed musicians, Éamon Doorley, Duncan Chisholm, Calum Stewart and Tony Byrne, they will raise the roof with a succession of musical guests.

For those of you who were lucky enough to snap up tickets whilst they were going, we will see you at the ceilidh and for those that will be tuning in on the night, we will be on air from 11.30pm on BBC ALBA and BBC Radio nan Gàidheal. It will also be available to view worldwide via: www.bbc.co.uk/alba

Be sure to let us know where you will be watching it from by using our hashtag #ALBAceilidh
